San Diego Cannabis Equity Program proposal helps low-income residents start marijuana companies

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – San Diego City Councilman Chris Ward is hoping to level the playing field in the marijuana industry with a new proposal.

Councilman Ward said the Cannabis Equity Program would help low-income residents open up marijuana businesses.

The program would provide small business support and mentoring to allow individuals in disadvantaged neighborhoods to participate and prosper.

Ward said he will introduce the proposal to the council’s economic development committee this spring.

It will be modeled after similar programs launched in Los Angeles and Oakland.
