San Diego County Basketball Coaches Association 2015 Girls 3-Point Contest
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – As part of the 2015 San Diego County Basketball Coaches Association CIF San Diego Section Senior All Star Game festivities, the best female three point shooters in the county took to the hardwood to determine the best sharpshooter.The selected group of marksman included Isabel Aguirre of La Jolla Country Day, Nicole Conyers of Fallbrook, Ali Engelhardt of Mt. Carmel, Kamree Harrison of Mt. Miguel, Madison Lombard of Torrey Pines, Evangeline Morga of Montgomery, Holly Picard of Mission Vista, Taylor Pierce of La Costa Canyon, Julia Pihl of Rancho Buena Vista and Kristine Sellona of Mater Dei.
The heavy favorite going into the contest was Taylor Pierce of La Costa Canyon. Pierce ended her 2014-2015 season at La Costa Canyon atop the CIF San Diego Section record books, with 346 career field goals from beyond the arc.
The final pairing in the contest was Pierce and Kristina Sellona. Pierce set the bar high at 16 baskets made in 60 seconds, but Sellona would pull off the upset, sinking 19 shots in the same time frame.
After the contest, Sellona was quoted saying that, “I know Taylor (Pierce) is a really good shooter. She’s always shot the lights out, even when we were in middle school and then in high school, watching her break records at her own school. It’s an honor to win.”
