San Diego County housing permits drop for fifth straight year

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The housing shortage in San Diego County is getting worse.

For the fifth year in a row, there was a drop in the number of permits issued for new housing. Housing permits in San Diego County dropped by 43% through the first six months of 2019, compared to the same period in 2018.

The numbers show a steady decline in housing construction in San Diego.

We talked to Borre Winckel, the President of the Building Industry Association of San Diego County, about the issue. Winckel says the only solution is to ease regulations and make it easier for companies to build.
