San Diego doctors on high alert after measles outbreak

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – San Diego doctors are on high alert after a surge in new measles cases across the country. As of today, the CDC says there have been 695 cases of the measles reported in 20 states this year, 38 cases so far in California, and the numbers expected to grow.

It’s the biggest outbreak in the U.S. in a quarter of a century.

Dr. Mark Sawyer, who specializes in infectious diseases at Rady Children’s, joined KUSI to talk about what would happen if the measles outbreak came to San Diego.
