San Diego E. Coli outbreak reaches 11 cases

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The number of confirmed or probable cases of E. Coli in San Diego reached eleven on Friday, one of which was fatal, health officials said.

The outbreak is linked to the animal exhibit at the San Diego County Fair. The fair closed for the year on July 4, a couple of weeks after 2-year-old Jedidiah Cabezuela died from the infection.

No other deaths have been reported, but all of the cases involve children ranging in age from 2 to 13.

People can avoid contracting the bacteria by thoroughly washing their hands after contact with animals.
