San Diego had about 537,200 beachgoers over the holiday weekend
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The number of beachgoers this 4th of July weekend was about half what was expected.
San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman said Monday that the decrease was likely due to overcast skies.
Nearly 537,200 people visited one of the many San Diego-area beaches over Independence Day weekend, with the fourth being the busiest of the three. An estimated 313,000 people were reported at local beaches Saturday, with only 66,300 on Sunday, SDFR's Lee Swanson said.
Lifeguards responded to 258 medical aid calls. performed 154 water rescues, and performed more than 10,000 "preventative acts," over the entire weekend.
