San Diego Hall of Champions Winter All-CIF Awards Show: Bob Breitbard

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Under the hallowed halls of the San Diego Hall of Champions, KUSI Sports in conjunction with the CIF San Diego Section recognized the top sports prep athletes in San Diego for the 2014-2015 winter season. The winter sports consisted of Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Wrestling, Boys and Girls Soccer, and Girls Water Polo. Each sport’s All-CIF team was recognized as part of a feature video, followed by a one-on-one sit down interview with a KUSI-TV reporter.

The highlight of the night came from KUSI-TV’s historical feature story on the founder of the Hall of Champions, Bob Breitbard.

Breitbard was a local sports enthusiast who decided to honor local athletics in his own way. Starting out in his garage in the 1940’s, Breitbard passed out certificates to San Diego County athletes who demonstrated honor and excellence in their sports.

As he expanded into more sports across more levels, not only did his stack of awards grow, but also his sports memorabilia collection.

Fast forward to 1999 when Bob Breitbard moved his vision of a San Diego Sports Mecca into its third and largest Balboa Park home, a 70,000 square foot Museum inside the Federal Building.

Today, Breitbard’s vision and footprint in the San Diego Community is carried on by the executive director of the Hall of Champions, Drew Moser.
