San Diego indoor lacrosse team lose in semifinal playoff game

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) –  The San Diego Seals inaugural season ended Monday evening with a 12-11 loss to the Calgary Roughnecks in a National Lacrosse League Western Division semifinal at Pechanga Arena San Diego, allowing five of the final six goals.

Roughnecks forward Carter Dickson broke an 11-11 tie by scoring his fourth goal with seven minutes, 56 seconds to play before a crowd announced at 5,005.

Back-to-back goals by Tor Reinholdt and Kyle Buchanan gave the Seals a 10-7 lead with 4:48 left in the third quarter. It was their second three- goal lead. They led 5-2 with 13:31 remaining in the first half.

Calgary’s final comeback began with 3:34 left in the third quarter on Dane Dobbie’s third goal. The Roughnecks tied the score, 10-10, with 13:18 remaining in the fourth quarter on Tyler Burton’s goal, eight seconds after Jesse King’s second goal.

The Seals regained the lead with 10:46 left on Turner Evans’ goal. Calgary retied the score 19 seconds later on Riley Loewen’s goal.

The score was tied, 6-6, at halftime with Calgary scoring four power- play goals. King and Dobbie scored to tie the score, 5-5, with 3:17 left in the first half when Seals defenseman Garrett McIntosh was serving a five-minute major penalty for elbowing.

Dickson and Dobbie scored when Seals transition player Drew Belgrave was serving a five-minute major penalty for boarding.

The Seals led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter on goals by Casey Jackson, Connor Fields and Evans.

The Seals led in shots, 54-43. Seals goaltender Frank Scigliano made 31 saves. Roughnecks goaltender Christian Del Bianco made 43.

The Seals were scoreless on three power-play opportunities and allowed goals on four of Calgary’s six power-play opportunities.

Evans scored three goals, Buchanan two and Brandon Clelland, Dan Dawson, Fields, Jackson, Connor Kearnan and Reinholdt one each for the Seals.

The Roughnecks advance to the Western Division final, where it will face the Colorado Mammoth, an 11-10 upset winner over the Saskatchewan Rush in the other West Division semifinal Friday night.

The Seals and Calgary were both 10-8 in the regular season. The Seals lost two of three games against the Roughnecks, with the home team winning every game
