San Diego set to host innovation week, featuring TwitchCon 2016 and more

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Civic leaders will announce a weeklong series of events to showcase San Diego’s innovation economy to cap the month of September. Innovate San Diego Week will be a collaborative effort between the city of San Diego, Maker Faire San Diego, the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp., UC San Diego’s SD Hacks, TwitchCon 2016 and the CRSSD Festival.

According to the mayor’s office, the events to be held during the week of Sept. 30 thru Oct. 7 will highlight the "ingenuity and creativity" of the region, display some of the best of local technology and promote San Diego’s innovation economy on a global stage.

SD Hacks, TwitchCon and the CRSSD Festival are all events scheduled to take place during the week. TwitchCon’s annual party will be held at Petco Park on Oct. 1, while the expo will take over the San Diego Convention Center from Sept. 30 thru Oct. 2. The second annual Maker Faire San Diego will be held on Oct. 1 and 2. 

SD Hacks is a 36-hour hackathon at UCSD in which participants create useful applications, TwitchCon is a gathering for the Twitch social media video and gaming platform, and CRSSD is a two-day music festival at the Waterfront Park at the County Administration Center.
