San Diego man who steals car arrested in Orange County
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A man who allegedly stole a University City resident’s car Wednesday while pretending to have a concealed gun was arrested in Orange County following a pursuit by federal agents.
The carjacking took place shortly before 1 p.m., as the victim was sitting in his 1998 Lexus in a parking lot at his apartment complex in the 9600 block of Genesee Avenue, according to San Diego police.
Later in the afternoon, U.S. Border Patrol personnel spotted the stolen sedan in San Clemente, SDPD Officer Frank Cali said.
The suspect, identified as Anthony Lopez, 22, allegedly refused to yield and led a road chase that ended when he crashed the vehicle into several others and made a failed attempt to escape on foot. The wreck caused no injuries, Cali said.
San Diego police officers traveled to Orange County to take custody of Lopez.
