San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer on Ash Street, Measure E, Operation Shelter to Home and SB 145

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The controversy continues surrounding the city-owned building formerly known Sempra Energy located at 101 Ash Street in downtown San Diego.

The building was acquired by the City in 2016 as a lease-to-own agreement valued at 72 million dollars.

The City took possession of the building as is but it was riddled with asbestos which was stated in the lease agreement.

The City has stopped the 535,000 dollar monthly payments due to its problems and vacancy.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer has ordered an investigation into the building.

The Mayor and mayoral candidate Todd Gloria, who was a city councilmember at the time, did.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer endorsed Measure E, which would allow for the construction of a new sports arena in the Midway District while maintaining a 30-foot building cap in all of San Diego’s beach communities.

Faulconer joined Good Morning San Diego to discuss Ash Street, Measure E, Operation Shelter to Home and his opposition to AB 145.
