Billy Joel set to play in front of sellout crowd at Petco Park; parking, transportation information

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — It’s been 15 years since music icon Billy Joel played in San Diego, but he returns Saturday Night to entertain what will be a sold-out crowd. Joel is playing at Petco Park for the first time in his career Saturday night, with gates opening for the show at 6 p.m. Traffic and parking is expected to be a challenge for San Diegans hoping to attend Joel’s only California stop in 2016.

The show is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Guests have been asked to be in their seats no later than 7:30 p.m.

Parking lots will open at 2 p.m. and those attending are encouraged to arrive early. Attendees with field seats are asked to enter through the Western Metal Breezeway on Tony Gwynn Dr., or the Park Blvd. gate. Those with tickets in all other seating areas are asked to enter through the Gaslamp, East Village and Home Plate gates.

Those driving to the event can pre-purchase parking permits for ballpark-adjacent lots on the Padres official website. More than 2,500 parking spaces will be available at the 707 Broadway Garage, Horton Plaza Garage, Convention Center and Hilton Bayfront Garages on Harbor Drive. To access these garages, use the Front Street exit from I-5 South, or the Cesar Chavez Parkway Exit from I-5 North. Additional parking information can be found here.

Taking public transportation to attend the concert is an alternative to avoid traffic delays. Metropolitan Transit System is running a special event trolley service Saturday to help streamline transportation. Southbound COASTER train passengers can transfer to an MTS Trolley at Santa Fe Depot to arrive at Petco Park. A midnight COASTER train will transport passengers north following the show.

More information on the MTS schedule can be found here
