Arrest made in Borrego Springs murder

BORREGO SPRINGS (KUSI) — Sunday — 55-year-old Brett Leslie Boynton was found dead in his home due to blunt force trauma with possible strangulation, officials disclosed Sunday. The man detained Saturday morning in connection was officially placed under arrest Sunday. 

Mark Peter Waugh was booked on suspicion of one count of murder, according to sheriff’s detectives. Waugh will be arraigned later this week. 

Saturday — A man was found dead in Borrego Springs early Saturday morning, and another man was detained as a person of interest, sheriff’s homicide detectives said.

Deputies were called to the 400 block of Verbena Drive at about 7:45 a.m. and found a man dead with signs of trauma to his upper body. He was believed to be about 50 years old, according to Sheriff’s Homicide Lt. Kenneth Nelson. Detectives held a man, who is believed to be about 50 years old, detained as a person of interest.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy and will determine the cause and manner of death as well as the identity of the victim, Nelson said.
