8-year-old girl fends off burglar in El Cajon

EL CAJON (KUSI) — El Cajon Police Department is searching for a suspect who broke into a home early Sunday morning but was fended off by an 8-year-old girl. Police received a call at approximately 4 a.m. from the mother of the victim, indicating that her daughter struck the suspect after being awakened. The suspect fled the home following the altercation. 

The suspect removed the window screen from a ground floor window that was open and entered the condo. He proceeded to enter the second-floor bedroom, where the 8-year-old girl and her 6-year-old brother were both sleeping. 

Officers from the El Cajon Police Department along with a K-9 deputy from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department conducted a search for the suspect at the time of the incident but were unable to locate him. Officers are currently patrolling the area and utilizing law enforcement databases to attempt to identify a suspect.
