Police in fatal Encanto officer-involved shooting identified

ENCANTO (KUSI) — The names of the four officers involved in the Encanto officer-involved shooting that left one man dead were released by authorities Friday. Five-year veteran Ryan Cameron, four-and-a-half year veteran David Serrano, four-year veteran Trevor Sterling and second-year Officer Shawn
Boggeman were the officers on scene, San Diego police Lt. Manny Del Toro said.

The shooting occurred Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. 30-year-old Thongsoune Vilaysane led police on a pursuit in a stolen Acura before crashing into a parked car in the 100 block of Pagel Pl., Del Toro said. The driver did not listen to officers commanding him to shut off and exit his vehicle before he drove toward officers.

Police fired several rounds into the vehicle, killing Vilaysane.

"In defense of their lives, four officers fired multiple rounds at Vilaysane to stop the threat of the vehicle coming towards them," Del Toro said. "Vilaysane was struck several times and died at the scene."
