La Jolla Town Council holding public forum to address sea lion presence

LA JOLLA (KUSI) — The La Jolla Town Council will hold a community forum which they’ve called "The Crisis at the Cove" to address sea lion occupation in the area. The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. Thurs., Jun. 9 at La Jolla Rec Center, located at 615 Prospect St.

The meeting is meant to be a means to address the "recent occupation of the popular beach by California sea lions." The hope is to bring a responsible solution to the quickly-expanding sea lion population across the coves.

Issues residents and business owners have with the sea lion presence are strong odors along the shoreline and their spreading population.

Finding a way to protect visitors, residents and businesses while also keeping the sea lions protected is the the challenge for La Jolla Town Council. An open forum bringing perspectives from locals from varying backgrounds and experiences could help the situation.
