5:36 a.m. — Lifeguards found a body in Mission Beach near Belmont Park early Friday.

Lifeguards called police around 5 a.m. after pulling a body from the ocean in Mission Beach, San Diego Police said. The body was found drifting near the Cannonball restaurant on Ocean Front Walk near West Mission Bay Drive.

The 50-year-old man was found wearing a wetsuit, police said. The body had no obvious signs of trauma and the county medical examiner’s office is determining the cause of death, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson said.

Lifeguards were alerted to the body by a person who was walking along the beach, police said. That person reported the body to the driver of a sand-sifter who in turn alerted police and lifeguards.
