Spring Valley man convicted of murder following McDonald’s drive-thru rampage

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A Spring Valley resident who killed a man following a confrontation that originated at a McDonald’s drive-thru near Cuyamaca College in 2014 was sentenced today to 16 years to life in state prison. Darius Watkins, 21, was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of Jorge Alberto-Rocha Osuna.

Authorities said the victim and one of his friends were in a drive-thru lane at a McDonald’s on Avocado Blvd. in Rancho San Diego when two vehicles pulled in behind his car. A man exited one of the vehicles and banged on the windows of both the restaurant and victim’s car. Two men in the victim’s car exited the car, prompting a fight.

Osuna and his companion drove home following the altercation, but the drivers of the other cars followed him. Osuna then stood in the driveway of his apartment complex and dodged being struck by a vehicle once, but Watkins backed his car into Osuna and pinned him against a wall, causing fatal injuries.

Watkins returned to the scene of the crime the following afternoon and surrendered to sheriff’s detectives. Osuna was placed on life support following the incident but died two days later.
