Los Angeles man arrested after assaulting Oceanside officers, barricading self in laundry room
OCEANSIDE (KUSI) — A 34-year-old Los Angeles man was behind bars for allegedly assaulting Oceanside police officers, then barricading himself in
the laundry room of a nearby apartment complex.
Christopher Barrios allegedly gave officers a fake name while being questioned about a minor municipal violation, then attacked them without warning in the 100 block of The South Strand shortly before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oceanside police spokesman Ryan Keim said. Barrios had a warrant out for his arrest at the time, according to jail records.
The suspect attempted to take a stun gun from one of the officers and a struggle ensued, Keim said. Barrios broke free, ran into an apartment complex on South Meyers Street near First Street and holed up in its laundry room.
Barrios surrendered after police fired pepper balls at him, Keim said. He was taken to Tri-City Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries, and was subsequently booked into the Vista Detention Facility, Keim said.
