Authorities investigating rape in Balboa Park

BALBOA PARK (KUSI) — Authorities are investigating a reported rape in Balboa Park that occurred at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday night, officials said. An emergency call was placed shortly after 12:30 a.m. from the area of Date St. and 9th Ave., south of the park, according to San Diego Police. 

The victim was walking in the 1600 block of 8th Ave. when she was confronted by the suspected rapist. The man pulled out a knife and threatened to kill the victim if she did not comply with his demands. The suspect forced the woman to walk with him into Balboa Park, where he went on to sexually assault the victim. The victim was then forced to walk back to the 1600 block of 9th Ave., where she was sexually assaulted a second time. 

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his mid to late 20’s, short slicked back hair, thin beard that followed his jaw line, dark t-shirt, dark blue “Dickie” style pants and dark work boots. The victim stated the suspect had tattoos on both forearms and chest area, and a tattoo of the capital letters "L.A." similar to the logo used by the Los Angeles Dodgers on the inside of his right wrist.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call San Diego police at (619) 531-2000. A composite sketch of the suspect, along with tattoos, was released by San Diego County Crime Stoppers.
