San Diego Padres to meet with free agent OF Bryce Harper in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (KUSI) – Reports say the San Diego Padres will be meeting with free agent outfielder Bryce Harper Thursday in his hometown of Las Vegas.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal first reported the news. The Athletic notes the Padres are also in the mix to sign Manny Machado writing, “to date, the markets for both player have appeared lukewarm. The Padres grew intrigued by the possibilities with Machado two weeks ago, when reports of lower-than-expected offers surfaced.”
We don’t know if the Padres are seriously considering signing Harper. Just three other teams have shown serious interest in signing the former MLB MVP. The Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies, and Chicago White Sox.
ESPN reports, “Harper, the 2012 National League Rookie of the Year and 2015 MVP, led the Nationals with 34 homers, 100 RBIs and 130 walks last season. He also tied for the team lead with 103 runs and made the All-Star team for the sixth time in seven seasons. According to multiple reports, Harper turned down a 10-year, $300 million offer from the Nationals before becoming a free agent.”
