San Diego Police make additional arrest in Logan Height Neighborhood Homicide

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – On Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 2:22 a.m., the San Diego Police Department Communication Center received a 911 call regarding a shooting at southbound interstate 15, at the northbound interstate 5 on ramp.

The caller stated that her boyfriend had been shot.

Police units and medics arrived on scene and found a 21-year old Black male with a gunshot wound(s) to his upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital.

Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased at the Hospital.

San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were called to the scene to investigate the incident.

The preliminary investigation has shown that the victim and a companion were traveling on S/B I15 when they noticed a stranded motorist at the N/B I5 on ramp. The victim pulled over to offer assistance. The victim exited his vehicle and was immediately shot.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, wearing dark clothing in a white vehicle. The suspect vehicle was last seen fleeing south from the scene.

CHP subsequently notified San Diego Police Department communications that there was a vehicle stopped on N/B I5 near 32nd street which matched the suspect’s vehicle.

A male was also seen walking away from the vehicle. San Diego Police Officers went to that location and contacted that subject.

The deceased victim has been identified as 21-year old Curtis Adams of San Diego. Adams was active duty with the Navy at the time of his murder.

21-year old Brandon ACUNA of San Diego was booked into county jail for his involvement with the murder of Curtis Adams.

The suspect(s) involved in this murder are also involved with the incident which occurred about 10 minutes earlier near 600 Boundary Street in the Mount Hope Neighborhood. In that incident the victim interrupted his vehicle being broken into. The suspect(s) shot at the victim but the victim was not injured.

Homicide detectives identified an additional suspect as 24-year old Edson Acuna. Edson Acuna and Brandon Acuna are brothers. A warrant was issued for Edson Acuna’s arrest
for murder. E. Acuna remained at large and detectives believed he could have possibly fled to Mexico.

On December 18, 2018, Mexican authorities located E. Acuna in Mexico and took him into custody. The suspect were turned over to U.S authorities at the border.

E. Acuna will be booked into jail for murder.

This case has been presented to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.
