San Diego police officer injured in crash during suspect pursuit

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A San Diego police officer suffered minor injuries when he crashed into another vehicle during a pursuit that began in the City Heights area, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a man acting strangely at a gas station around 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 4300 block of Orange Avenue in the City Heights area, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said. When officers approached the man, he sped away in a vehicle and police chased after him, Buttle said.

During the pursuit, an officer was involved in a collision with another vehicle on El Cajon Boulevard near the Interstate 15 southbound off- ramp, Buttle said.

The officer suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital, Buttle said.

No descriptions of the vehicles involved in the chase and collision were immediately available.

Officers arrested the chase suspect on southbound Interstate 805 near Plaza Boulevard in National City, Buttle said.

No information about the suspect’s name or age was immediately available.
