San Diego Red Cross Honors ‘Real Heroes’ in the Community

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties will celebrate local heroes for their extraordinary acts of courage, selflessness and leadership at the 16th annual Real Heroes Breakfast.

The Real Heroes event brings together community members and business leaders to recognize local individuals and organizations that embody the mission and spirit of the Red Cross by saving lives and creating safer, stronger and more resilient communities. Nine stories of exceptional courage and compassionate action will be shared throughout the morning.

Honorees this year consist of several instances of lifesaving actions including a military interpreter who saved his neighbor’s infant from a home fire while also losing all of his own family’s belongings, a couple that has cared for dozens of children in crisis, and a man that has taken his passion for music to create opportunities for homeless and at-risk teens. KUSI’s Jason Austell was live aboard the USS Midway with the details.
