San Diego Santa Anas to bring warm weekend weather

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Gusty Santa Ana winds buffeted San Diego County Friday ahead of a warming trend that will send the region’s temperatures soaring into the 90s this weekend, meteorologists said.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for valley and mountain areas until noon, saying sustained northeast winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with gust to 45 mph were likely through this morning.

“Strong gusty winds will make driving hazardous, especially for high profile vehicles,” the NWS said. “Watch for broken tree limbs and strong crosswinds at times.”

For Saturday and Sunday, building high pressure will combine with offshore flow to bring sharply warmer weather, the Weather Service said, adding coastal areas will top out in the mid- to upper 80s and the inland valleys temperatures will peak in the lower 90s.

“Be prepared for the heat if you have outdoor activities planned over the upcoming weekend,” the NWS said.
