San Diego Sports Medicine clinic still helping patients through coronavirus pandemic using telehealth
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – One San Diego sports medicine clinic is perfecting telehealth. Telehealth is the new way Physicians are still able to see their patients even though patients are at home during this COVID-19 pandemic.
The therapy room, private rooms and the gym, at Evolve Physical Therapy and Advanced Wellness, are usually filled with patients, but, not these days.
With the stay at home order in place, most patients aren’t coming in, but, that doesn’t mean they’re not seeing the physicians here.
Megan Burris, a physical therapist with Evolve, is seeing her patient via zoom.
Kim Guha recently had knee surgery to reconstruct her ACL.
“This is pretty good. I mean ,Meghan can really zone in on my weak spots. I don’t feel really different I’m still getting my workouts,” said Guha.
Kate Grace, a physical therapist and orthopedic physician, says she’s having her therapists use video meeting platform called Zoom.
“It’s the best we can do is see patients from afar. We can diagnose the problem by doing a subjective and objective test we can give them suggestions to what to do at home and anybody who’s one of our gym patients we can progress or program,” said Grace.
The cardio class ever Monday Wednesday and Friday is a huge hit.
“We have almost 100% attendance. It amazes me,” said Grace.
Part of the reason is the social interaction that happens after the class.
“They just want to know we’re there for them. We’re still there. We’re not just closing the doors and say ‘sorry will see you whenever we see you.’ It’s too important to us that they continue to be in good health,”said Grace.
KUSI’s Elizabeth Alvarez has the details.
