LIFE AFTER
The Old Globe (Balboa Park)
Through April 28
Grieving the recent loss of her famous father, 16-year-old Alice begins to question the events surrounding his death and sets out to uncover what really happened on the night that changed her family forever. Britta Johnson’s Life After is a bittersweet, witty, and life-affirming new musical that explores the mess and beauty of loss and love. Through the vivid imagination of a young woman looking for the facts, we find a more complicated truth instead.
• The Old Globe’s Barry Edelstein directs the American premiere of this rapturously beautiful and stirring new musical.

A SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS
New Village Arts Theatre (Carlsbad)

This play, originally written in 1746 in the Italian commedia dell’arte style comes to life in vivid color on the New Village Arts stage. When the trickster Truffaldino signs on to serve two masters in the hope of double wages and double dinners, chaos and hilarity ensue. This witty new adaptation bursts onto the stage with an ensemble production full of music, magic, and every trick in the theatrical rucksack – from Goldoni to Groucho Marx and all comedic stops in between.
• A world-premiere adaptation of the classic comedy by NVA favorites Samantha Ginn and AJ Knox.
• A rarely done piece outside of scholastic theatre. This is definitely one to see.
• Downtown Carlsbad has many great restaurants and shops before and after the theatre!!!

CATS
Broadway/San Diego (Civic Theatre – Downtown)

• CATS has gotten a bad wrap over the years, mostly from people who have never seen it. It really is one of the most original works ever created.
• As of 2018, Cats is the fourth-longest-running show in Broadway history, and was the longest-running Broadway show in history from 1997 until 2006 when it was surpassed by The Phantom of the Opera.
• The musical will have a film adaptation in 2019 by Tom Hooper.
