San Marcos 50, Chula Vista 0

Pop Warner “Knight” was a huge success at San Marcos High School Friday night! The home team Knights controlled every facet of the game on their way to a 50-0 win over the visiting Chula Vista Spartans (0-2).

San Marcos (1-1) was led by their do-everything senior wide-out Terrell Burgess, who touched the ball four times and scored on three of them. Burgess caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from Junior Quarterback Bryson Bolin and rushed three times for 96 yards and two scores.

“Terrell is one of our leaders and is being recruited heavily by several Division 1 programs,” Said San Marcos Head Coach Jason Texler. “So far he has offers from Oregon State, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, San Diego State, Colorado State, Wisconsin, and Utah State.”

If Burgess performs like he did against Chula Vista, he can probably count on a few more schools taking notice.

San Marcos came out firing in the first half 43-0 and never looked back. The Knights the majority of their starters sit the bench in the second half, yet still held onto the shut out.

Chula Vista continues to look for their first win next week when they host the Hilltop Lancers. San Marcos will host the Escondido Cougars for their third consecutive game at Excalibur Field. The Knights Coach Texler takes on his former team for the first time since taking over at San Marcos, the Escondido Cougars.

“I don’t look ahead in the schedule to many games, but I’ve had that one circled for a while now,” said Texler.
