San Pasqual Academy 50, St. Joseph Academy 30
The term “3 yards and a cloud of dust” usually means nothing but short runs, punctuated by yet another short run. In the case of the St. Joseph Academy Crusaders and the San Pasqual Academy Dragons, there were plenty of short runs, but also quite a few long runs for both teams in what turned out to be a high-scoring game Friday afternoon.
Each team brought their ground game in full force, but the host Dragons (4-2-1) managed to get the upper hand, as they beat the visiting Crusaders (3-3) 50-30 in San Pasqual Academy’s homecoming game that saw the Dragons’ Rigo Beltran named king of 2014.
One (or in this case, two) of the big stories for San Pasqual Academy are their twins, Devante and Donovan Ransom. And these Ransoms turned out to be anything but fools, as both made plays throughout the afternoon. Donovan reaped the biggest rewards of all, however, with Donovan scoring touchdowns of 50, 92, and 88 yards to help pace the Dragon ground game. Tim Clow was the bell cow for the Crusaders, but his valiant effort would not be enough to overcome the effort of San Pasqual Academy.
San Pasqual Academy will head to Julian next Friday night, while St. Joseph will head out to face the San Diego Jewish Academy.
