School bus catches fire on Interstate 15

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – More than 50 people, including 40 students, were evacuated from a school bus on the northbound Interstate 15 Monday morning when the bus caught on fire.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the bus, noticing smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle, pulled the bus over near University Avenue just after 8:30 a.m. The fire was out by the time fire crews arrived at the scene.

The cause of the bus fire was not immediately known.

The occupants of the bus, 40 students and their 15 chaperones, were able to safely exit the bus without injury. At the time, the bus was blocking one lane of the northbound 15.
