Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center opens clinic for inflammatory breast cancer

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center recently launched San Diego County’s first dedicated clinic for patients who have inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) – a rare and aggressive form of the disease that often goes misdiagnosed.

The clinic, located at Scripps MD Anderson’s Torrey Pines Mesa facility, is geared specifically to diagnose, treat and monitor IBC patients, staffed by a team of physicians with sub-specialized expertise in the disease.

According to Dr. Buchholz, it is essential to establish a comprehensive and personalized treatment plan for IBC as early as possible. “IBC has unique biologic behaviors and patterns of spread, so our plan of attack requires very specific treatment algorithms, which have been shown to achieve successful outcomes,” he said.
