Scripps Ranch Falcons 28, Serra Conquistadors 22

This Friday night I had the pleasure of starting my season as a red jacket out at Serra High School where the Conquistadors took on the visiting Scripps Ranch Falcons.

Both teams started off a little sluggish with opening possession interceptions by both teams, but eventually the Falcons settled down first with a long drive that ends with an two yard touchdown rush by Elijah Jones to open up the scoring.

The Conquistadors wasted no time on offense after turning the ball over and with the help of quarterback Timmy Zebrowski, who eluded three Falcon defenders and connected with Mark Genevich for a 63-yard catch and run touchdown.

The following play, defensive end Arn Cobb recovered a Falcon fumble and it set up a four-yard touchdown rush by Dustan Ellison to put the Conquistadors up 16-7.

After that, the Falcons offense kicked it into high gear by scoring 21 unanswered points from two in the air to Rashad Griffin and the last one on the ground from eight yards out courtesy of Nicholas Gardinera to put the Falcons on top 28-16.

The Conquistadors rallied late with a Dustan Ellison with a 60-yard rushing TD. Unfortunately, it was too late and the final score was 28-22 Falcons.

Friday night lights are back in San Diego this week where I will travel out to Serra High School where the Conquistadors host the visiting Scripps Ranch Falcons at 6:30pm. Both schools are trying to get their season started on the right track with a win.

For the Conquistadors, their offense is led by junior quarterback Timmy Zebroski who threw for over 1800 yards in his sophomore campaign. On the defensive side of the ball, Senior Raymond Garcia is looking to add to his impressive 46 tackle career and give the Conquistadors a solid pass rush when playing on the defensive line.

On the other sideline, the Falcons look to bounce back after a tough season last season and look to make a playoff push this year with a great mix of young and veteran players. This year, the offense is led by senior quarterback William Cavanaugh who is looking to find his receivers Rashad Griffin Jr and Charlie Fontana all season. On the defensive side, junior Brandon Stadtherr is looking to have another great year at the linebacker position.
