SDSU to host 2018 basketball tournament

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – The NCAA announced Monday that the first two rounds of the 2018 men’s basketball tournament will be hosted by San Diego State University.

The contests four years from now will take place at Viejas Arena on Friday, March 16 and Sunday, March 18.

It will be the fourth time SDSU has hosted the early rounds of the popular tournament. The first two rounds of the most recent edition were played in March at Viejas, which has a seating capacity of 12,414.

Aztecs head coach Steve Fisher, at his weekly news conference, said that “for two straight days, they will be talking to a national audience about games in Viejas Arena, in San Diego. And we will be mentioned a little bit in that, but our building will be prominently featured and our city will be, so it has to help us.”

If the Aztecs qualify for “March Madness” in 2018, they will not be allowed to play on their home court.
