Search is on for suspect in fatal shooting
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A manhunt is under way for whoever shot and killed a man who was talking on a cell phone on a street corner in the Swan Canyon neighborhood of San Diego, police said.
Officers responded at 5:09 p.m. Sunday to a call reporting a shooting in the 4700 block of Thorn Street and found the 28 year-old victim lying in the street, said San Diego police Lt. Ernie Herbert. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicated the victim was standing on the north sidewalk using a cell phone when he was shot, Herbert said, adding that what precipitated the shooting was not immediately determined.
Detectives and forensic specialists were processing the scene for evidence and interviewing witnesses, Herbert said.
The victim's name was being withheld early today pending family notification, he said, and no suspect description was immediately released.
Anyone with information on the shooting was urged to call the Homicide unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
