Section of La Jolla bluff crumbles, no injuries or structural damage reported
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A section of cliff collapsed near Tourmaline Surfing Park Friday, causing no reported injuries or structural damaged, but prompting lifeguards to close a stretch of beach below.
According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, an estimated two tons of dirt and rocks broke off the cliff in the 400 block of Sea Ridge Drive in La Jolla around 1:30 p.m.
Approximately 50- by 50-foot radius was coned off and SDFRD Capt. Joe Amador said they called in a city geologist to survey the area for any lingering hazards.
The collapse caused no apparent dangers to homes at the top of the bluff and resulted in no evacuations, the captain said.
