Security guard killed in East Village shooting
EAST VILLAGE (KUSI) – A man was killed in a shooting tonight in East Village, Downtown, according to Alpha Project.
Sources say the victim was a security guard for Alpha Project’s Imperial Bridge shelter on Newton Avenue, and was an employee since they had opened the location on November 5th of this year.
The non-profit says the unidentified victim was was shot around 7:30, while at least 128 people were in the shelter during the shooting.
Police locked down the building as they investigated the incident and are currently following up on leads to determine a suspect and motive.
SDPD has since closed 17th Street from J Street to Imperial Avenue and Imperial from 19th Street to 16th Street.
It’s unclear when the roads will be reopened.
