At least one person killed in fiery crash on Interstate 8 in El Cajon

EL CAJON (KUSI) — At least one person was killed in a fiery multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 8 just east of Main Street in El Cajon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Three lanes of eastbound Interstate 8 have been closed as authorities investigate the crash.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. when a car became lodged under a semi truck, according to California Highway Patrol.

After becoming lodged under the semi truck the vehicle caught fire, which in turn caused the semi truck to become engulfed in flames, CHP said.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the vehicle flames.

The lane closure is causing heavy traffic backup on eastbound Interstate 8.

It is not yet known if there have been any injuries reported.

This is a developing story.
