Senator Brian Jones co-authors measure to repeal Assembly Bill 5

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – State Senator Brian Jones announced Friday that he coauthored “The Right to Earn a Living Act,” a measure by Assemblyman Kevin Kiley that would overturn gig worker bill Assembly Bill 5.

Last year’s AB 5, by San Diego Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher, is forcing thousands of independent contractors to become formal employees of a business.

The law is causing a lot of backlash from ride-hailing drivers, computer coders, freelance writers, translators and other gig workers.

Gonzalez-Fletcher authored the bill, and recently came to KUSI to further explain and respond to critics.

Kiley and Jones’ Assembly Constitutional Amendment 19 would, if approved by the voters, overturn AB 5 and allow Californians to have maximum flexibility in deciding what type of work environment best serves the needs of them and their family.

Senator, and Candidate for the 50th District Congressional seat, Brian Jones was in studio to talk more about this.
