Several people injured in wrong way crash in Rancho Bernardo

RANCHO BERNARDO (KUSI) – Five people were injured, including three children, when two SUVs crashed head-on Monday in the Rancho Bernardo area, police said.

It happened at about 4:30 a.m. on Camino Del Norte near the Interstate 15 onramp, San Diego police Sgt. Tom Sullivan said.

The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.

A woman in her 30s had her 8-year-old child in the backseat with her 2- year-old child in a car seat at the time of the crash. An infant was also in the car, unrestrained.

The infant was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital, Sullivan said. The extent of the infant’s injuries was not available.

The other children were transported to Palomar Hospital with minor injuries.

The woman and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to Palomar Hospital, Sullivan said. The extent of their injuries was not available.

Intoxication was believed to be a factor in the crash, Sullivan said. The police department’s traffic division was investigating the crash.

The westbound lanes of Camino Del Norte and the I-15 offramp to Camino Del Norte were expected to be closed for at least four hours.
