Sewage spill in Oceanside contaminates Loma Alta Creek

OCEANSIDE (KUSI) – An ongoing sewage spill in Oceanside Monday resulted in water contact closure for Loma Alta Creek.

The city of Oceanside reported that sewage continued to spill at a rate of approximately 500 gallons per minute from several manholes near Garrison Street and Mesa Drive.

Crews in Oceanside are actively working to stop the spill; however, currently an estimated time for the completion of repairs is unknown.

Water and sewage in the Loma Alta Creek catchment at Buccaneer Park are being diverted to a sewage treatment plant and at this time pose no risk to adjacent beaches.

Signs warning of sewage contamination are posted at Buccaneer Park and other access points along Loma Alta Creek and will remain in place until samples indicate water is no longer impacted with sewage.
