Suspect in rapes, kidnapping arrested at motel
OCEANSIDE (CNS) – A registered sex offender was arrested Tuesday for allegedly raping two young neighbor women at his North County apartment before kidnapping one of them and holding her captive overnight.
Deputies took 33-year-old Jeremy Ryan Stutzman into custody without incident at a motel in the 900 block of North Coast Highway in Oceanside shortly before 3:30 p.m., sheriff's Lt. Jim Duffy said.
Authorities had been searching for Stutzman since late Monday night, after a 20-year-old Vista woman reported that she had been sexually assaulted by a neighbor at the South Santa Fe Drive apartment complex where she lives, according to sheriff's officials.
The woman told detectives that a 19-year-old friend of hers also had been raped by the same long-haired man, then threatened with a knife and taken against her will in a charcoal-gray 2005 Toyota Corolla owned by the older woman, Lt. Larry Nesbit said.
About 9 this morning, the abductor dropped the teenager off near her residence and drove away in an unknown direction, authorities said.
The victims identified the alleged assailant as Stutzman, a parolee-at- large and a resident of the apartment complex where both women live.
Deputies and members of a fugitive task force looked for the ponytailed suspect, who has a prior history of sexual battery, for nearly 16 hours before finding him and the stolen car at the coast-area motel.
