Sheriff’s Department Volunteers bring holiday cheer to seniors

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The spirit of giving was alive and well in Santee on Tuesday as Sheriff’s Department Volunteers brought a little holiday cheer to home-bound seniors.

‘Twas right before Christmas and all through the neighborhood, senior volunteers were out doing good.

“You Are Not Alone,” that is the name of the Santee Sheriff’s Department program. Senior citizens who do not have family nearby get a gift and conversation to put a gleam in their eye.

“They are my friends. You watch and listen for the phone to ring, or the car to stop,” said Mary Kay.

Volunteers always check their list twice so they know where to go.

“There’s a lot of nice people we visit,” said Cheryl Mason.

At 85-years, Denis Arguin takes pride in making people happy, that’s the bright side.

Comfort and friendship is what volunteers give out, and that does not cost a thing.
