Skateboarder killed in Pacific Beach

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A 25-year-old man was fatally struck by an SUV while
riding a skateboard in Pacific Beach, police said Tuesday.

The skateboarder was struck by a Jeep Cherokee at Garnet Avenue and
Lamont Street just before 5:45 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego police Sgt.
David Jennings.

He was riding his skateboard at a high rate of speed when the traffic
light turned red and he jumped off in an attempt to avoid the intersection, the
sergeant said in a statement. But “the momentum carried him into the
intersection where he was hit,” Jennings said.
