Skating by the Sea at Hotel Del Coronado

CORONADO (KUSI) – The Hotel Del Coronado has once again partnered up with Make-A-Wish San Diego this holiday season.

Proceeds from the hotel’s skating by the Sea go toward granting the wishes of hundreds of critically ill children in San Diego. KUSI’s Elizabeth Alvarez has the details.

By the looks of it, you would not be able to tell that Trevor Colbert has only half a heart that functions.

The 11-year-old is one of about 200 children with a critical illness That Make A Wish San Diego is helping.

“I went on a big cruise to the Bahamas. How is that? That was really fun!”

It’s also really fun is ice skating. Several Make-a-Wish families are able to enjoy skating by the Sea at the hotel Del and you can too.

“Every year money from the skate rentals from the hotel Del go to make a wish and we use those funds to grant wishes.” said Chris Sichel, President and CEO of Make-a-Wish San Diego.

Trevor is skating with his buddy Landon Howard whom also has a similar condition. Trevor has Hypoplastic right heart syndrome. Landon has Hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

Sichel says, “Almost every day in San Diego a child is diagnosed with a critical illness so make a wish needs to be ready to Grant those wishes. Arecent study came out that showed a connection between a child getting a wish and having fewer nights at the hospital and hopefully getting well faster.”

If that’s the case, granting these kids their wishes is certainly good medicine and you have the ability to give the gift of joy by coming out to the ice rink.
