Small School Game of the Week Preview: Lincoln Hornets 42, Mission Bay Buccaneers 6

The Hornets have done it again. Lincoln takes home their 6th win of the season over Mission Bay 42-6 as the Buccaneers still looking for their first win of the season.

Kenyon Sims and Charles Hicks, two Hornets who played their former team for the first time tonight and they definitely made the Hornets proud. 

It was a slow start with many flags thrown on the field, but the Hornets were the first ones to throw points on the board. Lincoln’s Asante Hartzog to Xavier Tate for a 19 yard touchdown pass. Later, Ke’Shun Ford intercepts the ball which soon turned into a 4 yard touchdown run by Kenyon Sims. 

Later, the Buccaneers Josh Buck to Wessly Danzy for a 7 yard touchdown pass. The point after touchdown was blocked bringing the score 14-6 Lincoln.

Then comes Da’Jon Thomas with a 93 yard kick return for a touchdown, throwing more numbers on the board for the Hornets 21-6. Later in the second quarter, Hartzog to Charles Hicks for a 10 yard touchdown pass. Right before halftime, Ke’Shun Ford again with the interception. Second one of the night for Mr. Ford. The Hornets ended the half ahead 28-6.

At the very beginning of the third quarter, Mission Bay with the kick off and who do they Hornets turn to to get the job done? That would be Da’Jon Thomas with another 90 yard kick return for a touchdown. His second one for the night. Soon after, Xavier Tate run for 40 yards, bring the ball to the one yard line and Asante Hartzog finishes it up and scores a touchdown to end the night.

The Hornets win 42-6. The win advances Lincoln 6-1 and the loss drops Mission Bay 0-7. Lincoln will travel to Christian to take on the Patriots next Friday and Mission Bay will have a home game against St. Augustine.

The Buccaneers, coached by first year head coach Kenny Nears, are still looking for their first win of the season. They are coming off a touch loss against Christian 68-10. Mission Bay is a younger team, made up of 37 players, 22 of them being sophomores. Mission Bay has a new head coach and a new defensive coordinator too. 
 

Starting quarterback Jaiden Correa is out for the season due to injury. Senior Trevor Scully takes over at quarterback and leads the team with 1380 passing yards for 15 passing touchdowns and 62 rushing yards for 2 touchdowns. The Buccaneers can count on Kenneth Russel to pick up some yards on the ground. Wessly Danzy is the leader on defense. Other key players to watch are Isiah Mitchell, Evan Aguon and Anthony Armstrong.
 

On the other side of the field, The Lincoln Hornets coming off a win against Scripps Ranch 61-0. Head coach David Dunn is in his 7th year with Lincoln. It has been 5 years since the Hornets have won a section title, but they are hopeful that this is their year. Their offense is lead by captain quarterback Asante Hartzog with 1100 passing yards for 12 passing touchdowns and 70 rushing yards for 4 touchdowns. Former Buccaneer Kenyon Sims is the Hornets rushing leader with 572 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Other key players to keep your eye on this Friday night are Kevin Banks (WR-CB), Don Chapman (S-WR), Jailen Bailey (WR) and Da’ Jon Thomas (WR-KR).
