Sound Up Full: La Jolla Country Day Head Women’s Basketball Coach Terri Bamford
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – I sat down with La Jolla Country Day girls’ basketball head coach, Terri Bamford, to talk about her start at Country Day, the ups and downs of winning and losing, and what’s next for the four-time CIF State Champion. After getting her start at St. Pasqual, she was hired at Country Day as an assistant, and she became the head coach the very next year. Throughout our conversation, it was clear to see that Coach Bamford has a love and energy for the game of basketball and the girls she has coached throughout the years. My favorite part of the podcast is when I asked her how she is able to get the best out of her players. She said, “If you’re going to come through the door and play for me, bring a great attitude and a great effort; everything else the coaching staff will take care of!” That method has gained her the hearts and minds of some of the state’s top women’s talent to ever step foot on a basketball court. We also talked about her most recent state championship and what the last minute was like, going down to the wire for her fourth CIF state title.Coach Bamford has been nothing short of excellent during her time at La Jolla Country Day. I asked her what kept her fire burning after accomplishing so much at this level, and she responded, “continuing to maintain excellence.” And, by the way she keeps racking-up CIF league, regional, and state titles, she is going to be around for a while.
