South Bay Game of the Week: Castle Park 35, Mater Dei Catholic 34 (2OT)

The week 7 South Bay Game of the week between Castle Park and Mater Dei is a match-up with a reputation of always being close. On this night that reputation rings true as the Trojans win 35-34 in DOUBLE overtime.

The Crusaders are the first ones to get on the board courtesy of a nice run by C.J. Verdell. But two beautifully thrown touchdown passes by Castle Park’s Jordan Danielson to Adrian Tolbert for 91 and 77 yards respectively give the Trojans a 14 to 10 halftime lead.

Mater Dei’s Rodrigo Garcia kicks a third quarter field goal to make it a one point game going into the fourth quarter…remember we said this game would be close!

Mater Dei’s Jerrod Rieta throws a nice touchdown pass to C.J. Verdell to give the Crusaders a seven point lead.

With two minutes left the Trojans tie it up at 21 a piece with a Jordan Danielson QB keeper…game ends…we’re going to overtime!

The first overtime ends with a tie so we go to overtime number two! With the score tied at 34, Trojan QB Jordan Danielson kicks the winning field goal!

This was a quality high school football game where both teams played their hearts out!
