South Bay Game of the Week: Mira Mesa 43, Chula Vista 0
The Week 5 South Bay Game of the Week featured Mira Mesa traveling to Chula Vista to take on the Spartans. Both teams walked on the field looking for their second wins of the season…in the end the Marauders take home the ‘W’ convincingly, winning 43-0.
A tough break for Chula when star running back Jaylon Candler injures his knee after only five minutes of play. The Marauders quickly get on the board with a 26-yard run by Dondre Johnson…his first of two rushing touchdowns on the night. Chamberlain Liddell Patacsil had a good night including a nice run into the end zone after taking in a pass from Sophomore QB Tristan Hughes. Mira Mesa was tough on defense featuring a pick and subsequent run into the end zone by Lawrence Oljol.
The game was also the tale of two coaches. Chula Vista Head Coach Drew Westling is in his first year at the young age of twenty-seven! Mira Mesa Head Coach Gary Blevins is in his twenty-first year…and check this out…fourteen of his former players have made it to the NFL!
As far as the extent of the injury to Jaylon Candler…an EMT tells KUSI he may have damaged his meniscus ligament. The PPR certainly wishes him we’ll and that it’s not serious.
