South Bay Game of the Week: Sweetwater 23, Mater Dei Catholic 7

The week 11 South Bay Game of the Week features undefeated Sweetwater traveling to Mater Dei to take on the Crusaders who are 5-4. Coming into this game the Red Devils are 9-0 and currently own the county’s longest winning streak at 17 straight victories. By the end of the night the Red Devils win streak is extended to 18 as they beat the Crusaders 23-7.

Mater Dei pulls off an impressive first quarter in not allowing Sweetwater to score, but the second quarter is a different story . Stud running back Raven Middleton runs it in for his 18th touchdown of the year. Minutes later ‘The Birdman’ does it again on a short run to make it 14-0. Then Middleton scores his third touchdown of the half with a 38-yard run to make it 21-0 Red Devils.

In the fourth quarter the Crusaders get on the board with a great one-handed pass reception by Kyle Moses…nicely thrown by Chris Jones.

The Red Devils finish the season undefeated at 10-0 and with a winning streak of 18…the longest in the county. The 18 games without a loss has historical significance…it represents the halfway mark of Sweetwater’s win streak of 36 games set back in the eighties…the longest streak of victories in the history of the CIF San Diego section!
