Southwest 36, Mountain Empire 14
On Friday night, the Mountain Empire Red Hawks and Southwest (SD) Raiders battled it out in an intense fight to the finish. Going into the game the Red Hawks were 1-2 and the Raiders an unfortunate 0-3.
Right off the bat in the second half, Southwest was ready to go; the score going into halftime was 20-8 Raiders on top. Following a nice kickoff return, the Raiders quickly sprinted into the end zone thanks to a Moses Robles five yard run, making it 28-8. Red Hawks offense was unable to produce much until a 2 yard touchdown run late in the third quarter, making the score a more manageable 28-14.
However, the Raiders picked up full force once again in the fourth quarter. QB Cristian Lopez threw a short pass to Ricardo Mayou who broke several tackles and bulldozed 35 yards into the end zone on a potential Play of the Week; this increased the Raiders lead to 36-14. On the following series for Mountain Empire, the Southwest’s defense proved to be too powerful when Mayou, who played both sides of the ball, had consecutive sacks on the quarterback.
The final score was 36-14 and the Raiders improved to 1-3 as well as getting on the scoreboard for the first time all season; Mountain Empire drops to 1-3.
